Trip to Malawi

My Aunt Carrie, my 2 cousins and their friends took me, Keith, and my cousin Chloe out to eat last night at this cool place called Malawi Pizza.

I, being a hungry-for-any-food college student, had a blast.

They serve gourmet thin crust pizza and many different kinds of delicious salads. That's not the best part. They have AMAZING dessert pizzas. It was an oreo themed pizza, with melty white frosting for the sauce and ground up oreo for the cheese and roasted chocolate drizzled marshmellows for the pepperoni.

They supposedly donate some of their proceeds to food donation groups for children in Africa. Sounds cool? Next time you're in Provo, be sure to stop by this one of a kind restaurant. Yum!

I Miss You

The other day I surprised myself.

My friend and I were talking about our favorite things and he asked, "What's your favorite dinner?"

I promptly respnded with my answer I always give. "Roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed vegetables, fruit salad... " but at this point my throat gave a little quiver. "... a-a-and h-homemade rolls." Then I realized it. All the way to my very core, and apparently my stomach too, I miss home. I miss Tennessee.

I miss rolling hills and cows. I miss the smell of freshly cut grass and the way that all the trees bloom in spring. I miss thunderstorms and yes, even the humidity. I miss being able to take walks past endless fields and old barns. I miss Victor the Volvo and I even miss driving in the traffic on 31!

But most of all, I miss my family. I remembered how mom makes delicious meals almost every night and how dad comes home and then all the kids run to the door to give him a hug. I miss the smell of our house when all the windows are open in the spring time and when Claire makes something new in the kitchen. I miss the sound of Jordan chasing Cade and Claire around the house, usually screaming at the top of their lungs. I miss laughing my throat hoarse at dinner time when Ben makes some ridiculous comment that usually has nothing to do with dinner. I miss my big windows in my room and I miss my purple walls. I miss having family movie nights when it's always Dad's first time seeing something but all the kids have seen it a million times so everyone's screaming, "I LOVE this part... Ahhhh this is the scary part!" I miss talking to Claire when we're getting ready for bed, usually about boys and how silly they are. I miss going to grandma's house and drinking all the punch and sneaking all the leftover rolls and the chocolate covered peanuts in that one glass bowl. I miss family time.

I remember being "SO glad to get out of Tennessee!!!!" at the beginning of freshman year, and I totally was, but you know what? Nothing can replace family.

I sure love them, and I know they love me.

Just a little more than a month and I'll be sitting at that kitchen table with my 6 best friends in the whole world and eating those delicious homemade rolls and choking because I laughed at something Ben said. Can't wait.

Love y'all!

Roadtrip: Cross Country Skiing Adventure!

Keith, his friend George, and 8 other people (family and friends) took a road trip up to Idaho to go cross country skiing this last weekend!
It was the most fun I had ever had outdoors in the snow.

For those who don't know what cross country skiing is, you just ski along a pre-made track in the snow through trees, up and over hills, through the canyons, etc. I think the trail we went on was about 2.5 miles long. The snow was literally 6 feet deep in some spots! Fences that would normally be used to keep in horses and cows came up right to our ankles.

I recommend it for anyone wanting a fun date, a fun family trip, or if you just need some alone time. It was amazing being in that kind of environment, with no sounds of traffic or the city, it was just pure wilderness. Every now and then we would stop to take pictures of the view. I thought for a while that I was in Narnia! Everything was so beautiful. It made me appreciate all that Heavenly Father and Jesus created for us. Here we are, insignificant humans, dust of the earth, and we get to live on this absolutely gorgeous world. I felt small and I felt blessed.

Leap Frog

What can six bored girls do on a cold weeknight?? LEAPFROG! We got all our mattresses and lined them up in our hallway. Ready set go!
We had a dance party and sang/yelled at the top of our lungs ALL THE SINGLE LADIES!
Then I remember there being lots of sugar involved but who knows...

Moral of this story: I love my roommies ♥

More Birthday Pictures!

Once upon a time: My Princess Party!

For my 19th birthday (Feb 14), my roommates and I dressed up in our prom dresses and did each other's hair and make up for my princess party! We had a fancy dinner consisting of roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, and steamed carrots and had a dance party right in our kitchen! Twas splendid indeed! I had a blast pretending we were princesses in a castle even though we were celebrating in our offwhite-cement-brick-wall dorm kitchen. We had to be super careful about the dinner because we were all wearing our favorite prom dresses! Then our family home evening brothers came over for cake and ice cream. I got some birthday packages in the mail from my wonderful family, and I received a boquet and balloons from a few secret admirers ;) It was my favorite birthday ever!

Bowling!

For my birthday, my roommies and I all went bowling before my party! It was so much fun. We went during the middle of the day, not many people were there, so we just went crazy!
