Little Moments

This week has been long. So this weekend, I'm appreciating the little moments.

Today I borrowed my roommate's bike and rode to the grocery store all by myself.
I didn't have to wait on anyone, I didn't have to be waited on. I had my own transportation and I intended to leave when I wanted.

My grocery list:
Honey Bunches of Oats (Family Size)
Cotton balls
Soap
Juice
Gum (Orbit!)
Magazines

I got the few things I needed and spent a substantial amount of time in the magazine section and walked out with Discover and Popular Science. I miss being able to read those at home on our fuzzy living room floor. And I just needed some good brain food.

The ride home was snowy and cold but I felt adventurous, zipping over curbs and sliding around on the wet leaves, avoiding cars and mailboxes.

Tonight is a date night with me, myself and I and I love it!

Tonight's activities include: a nice big mug of hot cocoa combined with some good reading.

I'm up for it.

It's little moments like these when I am happy to be alone.

The Cookie Dough Incident

Once upon a time two of my roommates decided to make chocolate chip cookie bowls at 1 a.m.

No, I didn't make a typo. We're talking about 1 a.m. here people.

1: "Let's pour the cookie dough onto an upside down muffin tin! It's gonna make perfect little cookie dough bowls!"
2: "Good idea! Also, this is even better because it is 1 a.m. and most people should be sleeping!"
1: "You're right! We have a ton of homework to do but we love sugar and spontaneous activities so much that this is the perfect activity for us!"

They then proceeded with their plan.

About a half hour later, I smelled smoke from my bedroom. Not smoke like "Oh I think something smells like smoke..." but a "OHMYGOSH SOMETHING IS ON FIRE" kind of smoke.

I walk out into our little kitchen.

I see my two roommates running around in their brightly colored fuzzy footie pajamas.

1: "Hahahahahaha there's smoke!"
2: "This is really funny!"
1: "Don't open the door to the bedrooms or else the fire alarm will go off!"

Me and my other roommates:

*pretend laugh*

"Haha okay that's really funny, now we need to get the smoke out!"

I proceeded to open the windows, turn on the fan, open the door wide, and start fanning out the smoke with our green blanket.

Roommate #3:

"DON'T USE THAT BLANKET THE AIR WILL MAKE IT DIRTY!"

Me: "Ohhh darn we wouldn't want a dirty blanket when there's so much smoke in the kitchen!"

I decided to take another route and swing the door back and forth and back and forth to get the cold clean air in and the smoky smelly air out while my roommates proceeded to taste the mess that was supposed to be cookie bowls.

1: "Wow this turned out terrible! Hahaha!"
2: "At least it still tastes good! Hahaha! Let's eat this with ice cream!"

One thing you should know about me: I don't like fire and smoke means fire.
What caused this smoke?? Supposedly chunks of cookie dough dripped onto the oven floor and started burning.

((The best part: Those chunks were cleaned out by me a week later on cleaning check day.))

So we proceeded to make the best of the moment and crawl around on our hands and knees trying to breathe ( and laughing for real this time because of the ridiculousness of the situation).

Lesson re-learned:
Sometimes living with others (5 other girls) takes patience and love. We all have our quirky sides but we all love each other regardless! ♥
